KARACHI: America criticized for double standards

KARACHI, Dec 3: Leaders belonging to various political and religious parties have contended that the US and its allies’ action in Afghanistan has exposed these countries’ claim of a civilized society.

“Loyalty with Islam and condemnation of the American steps against Afghanistan are being considered as a crime in Pakistan,” they said while speaking at a meeting organized by the Defence of Pakistan and Afghanistan Council here on Monday.

Prof Ghafoor Ahmed of Jamaat-i-Islami said the country is passing through a serious crisis of its history and vowed to continue the struggle to foil the nefarious designs of anti- Pakistan elements.

He termed the US-led attack on Afghanistan as an attempt to push the Muslims to the wall and labelled it as an attack on the Muslim Ummah.

The JI leader criticized what he termed dual standard of the US and said on the one hand it had launched operation against terrorism and on the other was killing innocent people in Afghanistan.

Qari Sher Afzal JUI said a countrywide protest campaign against the government’s Afghanistan policy and arrest of religious leaders would be launched. He said the detention of religious leaders would create hatred and unrest among the masses.

Mohammad Hussain Mehnati of JI expressed surprise over the attitude of the human rights organizations on the killing of innocent people. He said the anti-Islamic forces had united to destroy Afghanistan.

Maulana Arshad Zahid regretted that the government took no action over the killing of Pakistanis in Afghanistan.

Maulana Orangzeb Farooqui criticized the government’s Afghan policy and called for differentiating between Jehad and terrorism.

Mufti Usman Yar viewed that the government’s Afghan policy had made Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan insecure.

“The takeover of Afghan capital by the Indian and Russian influenced Northern Alliance despite assurance by Washington is an ample proof that America never remained on its words,” he added.—PPI
