PESHAWAR, Nov 24: A diabetes research centre has been established at the Kabir Medical College, a constituent of the Gandhara Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), said a press release here on Saturday.

Prof Dr S. Wahid Shah, head of the pharmacology department of Kabir Medical College, will also head the diabetes research centre.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting presided over by GIMS chairman Dr Mohammad Kabir.

The research centre had been initially assigned specific duties of conducting research on a variety of fruits and vegetables which would help control diabetics.

The research would also suggest proper and healthy food measures to prevent further complications and problems associated with diabetes.

The research centre would conduct a study in order to find out what fruit and vegetables would be effective in avoiding the characteristic symptoms like blurring of vision, extreme thirst, loss of weight and so on.
