PFF names Qamar Yar as new SFA secretary
KARACHI, Dec 18 Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) announced the names of general secretaries for three of their provincial associations on Thursday.
“We couldn't decide on a secretary for the Balochistan Football Association but we have picked Qamar Yar for Sindh, former national player Agha Latif for Punjab and Nur Shah, a provincial team member and associate of the district football association, for NWFP,” said General Secetary PFF Col (retd) Ahmed Yar Khan Lodhi while speaking to Dawn.
The 37-year-old Qamar Yar, who is in charge of physical education at the University of Karachi, has the honour of representing the KU football team for seven years. Besides holding a Masters degree in Economics and Health and Physical Education, he also holds an LLB. He was also Gymkhana Secretary at KU till 1992 when the position was abolished.
When Dawn contacted him to find out how he intended putting in eight hours a day at the Sindh Football Association (SFA) while also working for KU, Qamar said “I think I give more time than just eight hours a day to football.”
When pointed out that the SFA position as per PFF's criteria also required the secretary 'to not be permanently employed elsewhere', Qamar said “My job at the university is not a permanent one.”
The position of paid general secretary was created in the provincial associations by the PFF on the directives of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
