Shujaat meets Qadri; caretaker setup discussed

LAHORE: Chief of one of the main allies of the ruling PPP Saturday met with the cleric who staged a long march protest in Islamabad last month and discussed formation of the interim setup in the run-up to the general elections in Pakistan, DawnNews reported.

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, along with his party’s delegation called upon Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri at his residence in Lahore.

PML-Q leader and deputy prime minister Pervaiz Elahi, his son Moonis Elahi, senior party leader Mushahid Hussain Syed and Dr Khalid Ranjha accompanied the party chief.

Sources told DawnNews that matter related to formation of caretaker setup and names of potential interim prime minister and chief ministers were discussed in the meeting.

Speaking to media representatives after the meeting, Shujaat Hussain said that in order to remove legal constraints for installing the caretaker government, they will bring Law Minister Farooq H. Naek and Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira in the next meeting.

Meanwhile, Qadri said that the “revolution marches,” announced by his party, will take place as scheduled and vowed to protest against the government with large public gatherings across the country.

However, he said, the ongoing negotiations with the government will hopefully be finalised by next week.
