Musa Gilani appears before ANF in ephedrine case

ISLAMABAD: Ali Musa Gilani, son of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, along with his counsel, Fawad Chaudhry, appeared before the investigation officer of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and recorded a statement with regards to the ephedrine quota case on Thursday, DawnNews reported.

Musa Gilani denied any connection with the deputy drug controller Mohammad Tanvir, former director general health Dr Juma and former health secretary Khushnood Akhtar Lashari.

He claimed that his phone number was misused of which an investigation should be conducted.

Musa Gilani said he was ready to appear before the investigation officer again in case the ANF demanded.

Brig Faheem Ahmed Khan and Abid Zulfiqar were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, these two officials who were investigating the Rs7 billion scam involving illegal sale of ephedrine had been removed by the Ministry of Narcotics Control.

Speaking to media representatives prior to appearing before the investigation officer, Musa Gilani again denied involvement in the respective case.

“I have no connection to this case…I am not an accused…I will repeat the same statement before the investigation officer also,” Musa Gilani said.

He said he had to appear before the investigating officer on April 30, but in compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders, he was appearing before the officer on April 26.

Earlier, the ANF had submitted a report before the Supreme Court formally naming eight accused, including Musa Gilani, for their alleged involvement in the scam.

According to the ANF report presented in the apex court, the accused managed to convert the allotment of drugs intended for export into local use with the help of the health ministry staff and under alleged political pressure from Musa Gilani and Mian Abdul Sattar.

Moreover, during repeated media interactions, Prime Minister Gilani has indirectly been warning officials against implicating his son in the case.
