KARACHI, Jan 13: Junaid Zia gave an astonishing performance by taking seven wickets for just seven runs as Pakistan Customs completed a resounding innings victory, their first of the season, after Bangladesh 'A' were skittled out for 30 on Tuesday.

The Patron's Trophy Pool 'A' encounter at National Stadium finished 29 minutes after lunch of the second day's play with Customs winning by an innings and 41 runs despite making a modest 189. The entire match lasted a mere 105.4 overs.

Junaid, the 20-year-old son of ex-PCB chairman Tauqir Zia, could not have chosen a better time to answer his detractors. Bowling from the University Road End, Junaid struck with the third ball of his second over when he had Moniruzzaman caught close in before clean bowling Rashidul Hoque. He then disposed of Halim Shah (brilliantly held in the slips by Bilal Khilji), Mazharul Hoque and Anwar Hossain in the space of four deliveries in his fifth over.

Stephen John, whose six wickets on Monday included a hat trick, proved more than a handful from the end. He sent back Naseeruddin Faruque, skipper Tushar Imran and Alamgir Kabir to finish with a match haul of nine for 64. But the day belonged to Junaid, who had one five-wicket haul before Tuesday - 5-78 for Rawalpindi v KRL at Pindi Stadium in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy in January 2003 - in seven first-class games. He completed a dream spell with the scalps of Fahim Muntasir and Ashraful Hoque.

Three of the visiting batsmen - Anwar, Fahim and Alamgir - had the mortification of collecting pairs in the match. Bangladesh 'A's total in the second innings, that lasted only 14.4 overs and consumed 99 minutes, is the sixth instance of a team scoring 30 or below in the history of Pakistan cricket. The lowest score stands against the National Bank who folded up for mere 20 runs against Customs in a Patron's Trophy fixture at the UBL Sports Complex in the 1998-99 season.
