PESHAWAR: Durrani made leader of opposition in PA
PESHAWAR, May 5: Former NWFP chief minister, Akram Khan Durrani, was on Monday appointed Leader of the Opposition in the NWFP Assembly.
According to a government notification, Mr Durrani would be entitled to all the facilities provided under Section 3A of the Provincial Assembly of North-West Frontier Province (Salaries and Allowances of Members) Act, 1974.
Mr Durrani got elected as MPA from PF-73, Bannu constituency on the ticket of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.
Among the opposition parties in the NWFP Assembly, the MMA has 14 members whereas another major opposition party Pakistan Muslim league-Q has six members. As the MMA is the largest opposition group, therefore, Mr Durrani was appointed the leader of the opposition.
According to the Procedure and Conduct of Business Rules of the NWFP Assembly that person has to be appointed as the leader of the opposition who in the opinion of the speaker is for time being leader in the house of the largest party in opposition.
