LAHORE: Punjab Food Safety and Consumer Protection department Secretary Dr Kiran Khurshid has said that some Rs276 million have been approved for the expansion and rehabilitation project of the Badami Bagh vegetable and fruit market, and the work order has been issued.

Having a completion deadline of Sept 30, 2026, the secretary says work on laying RCC sewerage pipelines has been completed, while 75pc of the rehabilitation of the 40-foot-wide main RCC road has also been completed. Meanwhile, 40pc of the construction and renovation of the eight-foot-high boundary wall has also been completed, he said.

Dr Khurshid said more than 15pc of the construction work on four modern gates and pillars at Ravi Road vegetable and fruit market had been completed, while 20pc of the work to install tuff pavers on pedestrian pathways and parking areas was also completed.

She said that over 25pc of the work to clean the market’s drains and install slabs over them had been completed, while construction of the vegetable market’s sub-office building was nearing completion.

The secretary said work on installing 70 modern LED streetlights at the Ravi vegetable market would also begin soon. She said that timely completion of the project would equip the vegetable and fruit market with modern facilities and provide greater convenience to traders and buyers.
