KARACHI: Three additional judges of the Sindh High Court took the oath in a ceremony held on the premises of the high court on Wednesday.

Chief Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput administered the oath to Justice Muhammad Humayon Khan, Justice Suresh Kumar and Justice Dr Shah Nawaz Memon.

Other SHC judges, federal and provincial law officers, representatives of bar associations and senior lawyers attended the ceremony.

On July 20, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) had recommended three additional judges for the SHC for a term of one year. It had also extended for six months the term of Justice Khalid Hussain Shahani as an additional judge of the SHC.

On Aug 11, President Asif Ali Zardari had assented to the appointments of 19 additional judges of four high courts, including three of SHC. At present, the total number of judges working in the SHC is 34 — 30 permanent and four additional judges — against the sanctioned strength of 40.
