KARACHI: Two suspected members of an inter-provincial gang of extortionists were shot dead in an alleged encounter in Ittehad Town on Wednesday.
South DIG Syed Asad Raza said that police spotted four suspects at Karbala Ground. Seeing the law enforcers, the suspects resorted to firing and in an ensuing exchange of gunfire, two of them were killed while their two accomplices managed to escape, he added.
The deceased were identified as Mohammed Idris and Shahabuddin Ghauri.
The police claimed to have recovered one rifle, one pistol, two cell phones and cash from their possession.
The police said during the initial probe, it transpired that the killed suspects belonged to an inter-provincial gang of criminals. Suspect Idris was booked in 17 cases in Punjab.
They said that the suspects had demanded extortion from local businessmen using a foreign SIM.
The bodies were shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.
Truck runs over, kills biker
A teenager was killed when a truck hit a bike near Chamra Chowrangi in the Korangi Industrial Area on Wednesday.
The traffic police official said that the truck driver, Ayaz Shah, was speeding when he hit the bike, causing serious injuries to the rider, namely Sagar Ali, 15. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead. The truck driver was arrested and the heavy vehicle impounded.
