KARACHI: The reported decision of the Bharati Government to evaluate the Muslim evacuee property for compensating displaced persons in Bharat for the property left by them in Pakistan is a “flagrant breach” of the Pakistan-Bharat Agreement on Evacuee Property entered into between the two Governments in January 1949, competent observers said in Karachi on Friday [Aug 3]. This decision, it is pointed out, would be tantamount to the confiscation of the properties left by Muslims in Bharat and their subsequent handing over to Hindu and Sikh refugees. The January Agreement, it is stated, guaranteed the preservation of rights of evacuees in their properties.

According to reports ... in the Bharati Press the Bharati Government after evaluating the Muslim evacuee property might hand it over to the Hindu and Sikh refugees against their claims which are being determined by Bharati ... officials.

The Pakistan Government ... had been adhering to the January Agreement in glaring contrast to Bharat which went against her pledged word soon after the signing of the agreement and had been violating it bit by bit up to this day. — News agencies
