QUETTA: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), chaired by Asghar Ali Tareen, on Monday examined the Washuk District Council’s development budget for the financial year 2025–26 over alleged irregularities in its approval and implementation.
MPA Zabid Ali Reki submitted a report to the committee on the council’s development budget.
According to the report, Rs71.5 million development budget of the district council was approved and processed without taking the council’s chairman and its 13 elected members into confidence. It also pointed out discrepancies between the budget approved by the District Council and the version uploaded on the Balochistan Public Procurement Regulatory Authority’s (BPPRA) portal.
During the meeting, all original and certified records related to the Washuk development budget for the financial year 2025–26 were presented before the committee for examination.
The committee carried out a detailed review of the approved development budget, budget estimates, meeting agendas, minutes of proceedings, resolutions, scheme-wise allocation of funds, administrative and technical approvals, PC-I documents, tender documents, records uploaded on the BPPRA portal, work orders, relevant files, official correspondence, and other related documents.
Speaking at the meeting, PAC Chairman Asghar Ali Tareen said the committee would fulfill its constitutional and legal responsibilities to ensure the transparent, efficient, and lawful utilisation of public resources. He said the committee intended for the proceedings to serve as a model for future oversight by promoting greater accountability, transparency, and good governance.
To facilitate further scrutiny of the matter, the committee constituted a subcommittee and tasked it with conducting a comprehensive review of all available records and evidence. The subcommittee has been directed to submit its findings to the PAC within 10 days.
