SUKKUR: The Shikarpur police claimed having killed Ameer Bakhsh Jatoi-Kamalani — a notorious dacoit wanted by police in numerous cases of heinous crime including the killing of a constable, Saddam Otho, “in an encounter”.

SSP Mohammad Kaleem told media personnel on Monday that during the ongoing crackdown on criminals, a joint team of the Shikarpur police and intelligence agencies noticed suspicious movement of some armed men near Shar Laro Bypass, within the jurisdiction of the Stuart Ganj police station. When the police team came close to them, the suspect opened fire, he said, adding that an encounter ensued which left one of the suspects dead. The deceased was later identified as Ameer Bakhsh Jatoi-Kamalani, the SSP said.

He said that a Kalashnikov rifle and bullets were seized from him.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has described Kamalani’s killing as a “significant achievement” by the police.
