LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) on Monday claimed to have detected 1,545 electricity theft cases across its operational jurisdiction during July as part of its ongoing anti-power theft campaign.

According to a Lesco spokesperson, of the total cases detected between July 1 and July 31, as many as 1,542 involved domestic consumers and three were related to agricultural connections. The company submitted requests for the registration of 1,531 first information reports (FIRs), of which 593 had been registered, while 38 suspects were arrested.

The spokesperson said power thieves were charged for a total of 2.74 million electricity units, while detection bills amounting to Rs105.19m were issued. The company also recovered Rs25.35m during the month.

According to the utility, the highest number of theft cases was detected in the Central Lahore Circle with 595 cases, followed by Northern Lahore (297), Okara (229), Eastern Lahore (154), Sheikhupura (149), Nankana Sahib (68), Kasur (39) and Southern Lahore (14). No case was reported in the Industrial Circle.
