RAWALPINDI: More than 4,000 police personnel will be deployed to ensure foolproof security for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections on the migrant seats in the Rawalpindi Division on August 2.
A spokesman for Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz Alpa said a security plan had been chalked out with the deployment of 4,029 police personnel.
He said 175 polling stations had been set up for the elections in four constituencies of Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal and Murree. He said the 175 polling stations had been categorised as ‘A’, highly sensitive, ‘B’ sensitive and ‘C’ normal.
He said special surveillance and effective patrolling will be ensured at sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations.
Strict implementation of the security plan will be ensured at all costs, suspicious persons, suspicious activities and illegal weapons will be closely monitored, the RPO said.
He said strict legal action will be taken against those violating election laws and the code of conduct. Full communication and effective coordination will be maintained with the district administration, Election Commission and other institutions.
Police officers will be present in the field and monitor election security. Citizens should abide by the code of conduct and immediately report any suspicious activity to the police, the RPO said.
On the other hand, the district police have chalked out a security and traffic plan for the peaceful conduct of the polls.
A police spokesman said more than 3,100 police and 200 traffic police personnel will be deployed at 100 polling stations located in the Rawalpindi district.
The polling stations have been set up in the areas of City police station, Ganjmandi, Ratta Amral, Pirwadhai, Waris Khan, Bani, New Town, Sadiqabad, Chaklala, Civil Lines, Cantt, Race Course, Taxila, Wah Cantt, Saddar Baruni, Dhamial, Chakri, Chontra, Rawat, Mandara, Gujar Khan, Jatli, Kallar Syedan and Kahuta.
Foolproof security arrangements have also been made for the safe delivery of polling materials, he said.
CPO Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera said the implementation of the election code of conduct and rules and regulations formulated by the Election Commission will be ensured.
Ensuring the safety of citizens and ensuring peace and security is the top priority, the CPO said.
Attock
The Attock police have also issued a security plan for the elections and deployed over 400 police officers and personnel across 28 polling stations in the district.
The security arrangements included the deployment of one superintendent of police (SP), six deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), 12 station house officers (SHOs), 81 upper subordinates, 203 head constables and constables, 39 lady constables and personnel from the Elite Force.
Police said additional contingents would remain on a standby for immediate deployment at sensitive polling stations to effectively deal with any untoward situation and ensure uninterrupted polling.
