LAKKI MARWAT: Security personnel killed a terrorist in an exchange of fire after a quadcopter strike on Wanda Banochi checkpost in Darra Pezu town here.

Police and security officials said on Friday that three policemen, including an officer, were injured when terrorists carried out the strike on the checkpost located along the Bannu-DI Khan Section of Indus Highway.

They said that the quadcopter dropped an explosive round on the post, which went off with a bang, resulting in injuries to ASI Asif Khan and constables Adnan and Naeem.

“The injured officials were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Tajazai,” they added.

They said that after the terrorist attack, security forces launched a search, tracking and pursuit operation in the area to hunt down assailants.

“When they received intelligence that the terrorists involved in the attack on the police checkpost were moving towards Pezo Nullah, the security forces reached there and engaged them,” they said.

The police and security officials said that after an exchange of fire, the troops neutralised and eliminated one of the terrorists belonging to Tank district, while his accomplices escaped.

Meanwhile, over a dozen villagers, including a police official, were injured in a quadcopter attack in Kherukhel Pacca area of Lakki Marwat district on Friday.

Police and rescue officials said that terrorists attacked the hujra (common guesthouse) of former nazim Khalid Khan in a remote rural area within the limits of Ghaznikhel police station.

They said that the quadcopter released its explosive payload at the hujra, which caused a loud explosion. “The blast left 13 people, including the father of the former nazim, injured,” they said. A Rescue 1122 official said the injured villagers were transferred to the DHQ Hospital.

“Some critically injured men were referred to hospitals in the neighbouring Bannu district for better treatment,” he said.
