Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei has denied reports claiming that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed.

“Some media reports claiming the closure of the Strait of Hormuz are not true,” he says in comments carried by Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency.

“The armed forces of Iran, in accordance with the memorandum of understanding to end the war dated June 18, 2026, have taken the necessary measures to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, and shipping in this route is currently underway.”
