IED attack targets cop’s residence in Lakki
LAKKI MARWAT: Unidentified terrorists attacked the house of a police constable with explosives in the Shadikhel area of the Lakki Marwat district, police said on Saturday.
A police official said that terrorists affiliated with Fitna al Khawarij had planted an improvised explosive device (IED) at the house of Constable Tehsil Khan.
Fitna al Khawarij is a term the state uses for terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The police official said the explosion caused significant damage to the structure, including its bedrooms, veranda and washrooms.
No casualties were reported as the occupants were away, staying with relatives at the time of the incident, the official added.
He further said a heavy police contingent reached the site after the blast and launched a search operation in the area.
Hideouts destroyed
Police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) commandos destroyed terrorist hideouts during a search-and-strike operation in Karak district on Saturday.
A police official said the operation was simultaneously launched in the difficult mountainous terrain of Tozikhel Wazir, Darga Shaheedan, and Dargai areas, bordering the Wazir subdivision of Bannu district.
“The police and CTD commandos were deployed to the area after local police authorities received credible information that terrorists had established safe havens in the mountains to execute their nefarious and anti-peace plans,” he added.
Also on Saturday, armed men kidnapped the principal of a private school in the Adamzai area, within the jurisdiction of Tajori police station in Lakki Marwat district.
A police official confirmed the abduction of the school head, identified as Barkatullah, and said the armed men intercepted him at gunpoint in a rural locality while he was traveling to his village with his younger brother on a motorcycle.
“The armed suspects forced the principal into their vehicle and took him, along with his motorcycle, to an unknown location,” he added.
