ISLAMABAD: Participants of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC) and the cricket teams taking part in the tri-nation series have been granted VVIP status, with the capital police deployed for their security.
Accommodation for the conference participants and the cricket teams of Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe has been arranged at separate locations. Police officials said pickets had been established around the venues in the capital.
In addition, police pickets were set up on the roads leading to the venues. About 120 officials from the Counter-Terrorism Department, Anti-Terrorist Squad, Special Branch and area police have been deployed at these pickets and around the venues.
The Islamabad Traffic Police chief has been tasked with making special traffic and parking arrangements and managing traffic diversions to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles, as well as the removal of abandoned cars and motorbikes from city roads.
The AIG Special Branch, Islamabad, has been directed to depute staff in plain clothes for the collection of advance intelligence.
In case of actionable information, the staff will immediately inform the relevant police officer and the main police control.
The AIG Special Branch has also been asked to deploy bomb disposal squads for technical sweeping and plainclothes officials of the Special Branch for security purposes.
Officers have been instructed not to use mobile phones while on duty. They have also been directed to properly brief the deployed personnel about the sensitivity of their assignments and ensure that all are equipped with anti-riot gear.
The concerned SDPOs and SHOs will continue mobile patrolling during the stay of foreign VVIPs and the Sri Lankan and Zimbabwean teams in the capital. They will check public and private vehicles, motorcycles and pedestrians, and brief police personnel deployed at the cordoned-off points and on patrolling vehicles within their jurisdictions.
Meanwhile, the International Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference will commence on Tuesday (today), with delegations from various parts of the world arriving in Islamabad.
The conference reflects Pakistan’s diplomatic foresight, aimed at promoting international parliamentary cooperation. The two-day event, scheduled for November 11–12, 2025, will bring together parliamentary leaders, members and representatives of international organisations from different regions.
Countries participating include Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kenya, Palestine, Morocco, Rwanda, Maldives, Malaysia, the Philippines, Serbia, Nepal, Liberia and Jordan.
The conference is expected to serve as a significant milestone in promoting global peace, mutual cooperation, parliamentary diplomacy, democratic values and dialogue, while strengthening ties among parliamentary institutions across the world.
From Saudi Arabia, a delegation led by the Vice Chairman of the Shura Council, Mr Abdullah bin Adam Falaatah, has arrived in Islamabad. The delegation includes Dr Usman Haqqamani, Abdullah Atlas and Dr Moeen Al-Madani.
Senator Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto and senior officers of the Senate Secretariat warmly welcomed the Saudi delegation.
From Jordan, a delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Taufiq Kreishan has also arrived. The delegation includes Rakan Hammadeh Al-Fawaz, a member of the Upper House of Jordan, along with other officials.
From Azerbaijan, a parliamentary delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Ali Ahmadov, arrived in Islamabad. From Uzbekistan, the Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Supreme Assembly, Sodiq Safoev, headed the delegation, while from Cameroon, the delegation was led by Member of Parliament Kamasse Simon Pouhe.
Former President of Guatemala Jimmy Morales, Deputy Speaker of Kenya Farah Maalim Mohammed, and Speaker of the Palestinian National Council Rawhi Ahmad Mohammad Fattouh also arrived in Islamabad along with their respective delegations.
From Morocco, Speaker of the House of Councillors Mohamed Ould Rachid; from Rwanda, President of the Senate Francois Xavier; from Maldives, Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdullah; from Malaysia, Deputy President of the Upper House Nur Jazlan bin Mohamed; and senior officials from the Philippines have also landed in Islamabad.
From Algeria, a delegation led by Member of Parliament Saad Arous; from Barbados, Speaker of the Parliament Arthur Eugene Holder; and from Serbia, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Edin erlek have also arrived with their parliamentary delegations.
Similarly, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of Tajikistan Aziz Giyozoda and Dr Nurul Alam Mozumder, an officer of the international organisation GCPR Global, have also arrived in Islamabad.
Harka Raj Rai, Secretary of the House of Representatives of Nepal, has also reached Islamabad to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference.
From Liberia, Speaker of the House of Representatives Richard Nagbe Koon and Sam P Jallah, Chairman of the Hydrocarbon Committee and Member of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee of the House of Representatives, have also arrived to attend the conference.
Senior Director General Protocol Tariq Bin Waheed and other officers of the Senate Secretariat received the guests at the airport on Monday.
