Warrants out for Gandapur’s arrest in liquor case

ISLAMABAD: A judge in the federal capital has ordered the police to arrest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and present him in court.

Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan Chishti issued Mr Gandapur’s arrest warrant in a case related to the alleged recovery of liquor and illegal weapons from his car in 2016. The court directed the SHO of Bhara Kahu police station to arrest Mr Gandapur and produce him before the court on July 21.

During the hearing, CM Gandapur’s counsel, Raja Zahoorul Hassan, cited a PHC decision, arguing the Islamabad court didn’t have the authority to issue the warrant since Mr Gandapur is already on bail until Sept 23.

However, the magistrate rejected the argument and issued the warrant.

Separately, the capital police submitted challans in two cases related to the PTI’s Azaadi March. Mr Gandapur and senior PTI leader Shafqat Mahmood are among the accused.

The court summoned both leaders and adjourned the hearing till July 24.

Meanwhile, Additional District and Sessions Judge Nasruminallah Baloch postponed the indictment proceedings in the audio leak case involving CM Gandapur till Sept 29.
