KARACHI: A 16-year old girl found murdered in Khokhrapar on Thursday was subjected to a sexual assault before being strangled, police and hospital officials said on Friday.

Police surgeon Summaiya Syed said that a post-mortem examination was conducted at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and the findings revealed that she was “subjected to sexual violence”.

Korangi SSP (Investigation) Mohammed Qais Khan told Dawn the girl lived at her uncle’s house following her parents’ separation. Her father and brother lived nearby, he said, adding that on Thursday, she left home at around 2 pm to bring lunch for her father and brother. However, she failed to reach there, and half an hour later, she was found dead in the street.

The SSP said that “some suspects” from the neighbourhood had been taken into custody for questioning.

He added that investigators found her slippers and lunch boxes in an under-construction house and on the roof of another house in the area.
