After JUI-F, PkMAP challenges mines law

QUETTA: The Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) has filed a constitutional petition in the Balochistan High Court, challenging the recently adopted Mines and Minerals Act passed by the provincial assembly.

The petition was submitted by PkMAP’s Central General Secretary Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal and Provincial President Abdul Qahar Khan Wadan. Senior lawyer Advocate Habibullah Nasir, who serves as the party’s central secretary for legal affairs, filed the petition on behalf of Mr Ziaratwal.

This is the second petition filed in the Balochistan High Court against the controversial Act, which was passed last month. Earlier, JUI-F’s provincial emir, Senator Maulana Abdul Wasay, also filed a constitutional petition against the Act.

Others, including BNP-Mengal and former senator Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani, have also announced their intention to challenge the Balochistan Mines and Minerals Act in the courts.
