The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has warned that the fuel crisis in Gaza was deepening, with no fuel allowed to enter for more than four months.

In its latest report, the agency said, “Humanitarian organisations warn that a total collapse of humanitarian operations is imminently expected if no fuel enters the Gaza Strip. Lifesaving services including health, water and sanitation, telecommunications and protection services are at imminent risk of shutting down.”

UNRWA also reported that 85 per cent of Gaza was within Israeli-militarised zones or under forced evacuation orders, adding that over 714,000 people have been displaced since the breakdown of the ceasefire.

The report also highlighted challenges faced by the health response in the enclave, including “extensive damage to health facilities, obstacles to safe movements and restrictions on the entry of medical supplies and fuel”.
