LAKKI MARWAT: Firefighters of Rescue 1122 service continued their efforts on the third consecutive day to extinguish the forest fire in Karak district.

A Rescue 1122 official, Asif Khattak, said that a fire broke out in the mountains in the Gurguri and Bashi areas in the Banda Daud Shah of the district on June 3.

“When the control room received information about the fire, the district emergency officer Atif Sardar immediately dispatched a team of firefighters along with all necessary gadgets to the venue,” he maintained.

He said the personnel along with local volunteers and employees of the forest department launched an operation to control the blaze.

“The difficult and hard mountainous terrain hindered the movement of fire trucks and tankers,” he said, adding that fire vehicles could not reach the spot to take part in the fire extinguishing operation.

He said that despite strong winds, the rescue emergency service teams and local residents were using various techniques to control the fire.
