LAKKI MARWAT: A police official was injured in a gun battle with terrorists in the Fatehkhel area of Bannu district on Thursday night.

Officials said an intense exchange of fire erupted when a group of terrorists attacked the police post in the remote locality.

They said that the attack took place within the limits of Mandan police station wherein the assailants used light and heavy weapons.

“Though the attack was multi-pronged the policemen fought bravely and repelled the terrorist attack effectively,” they claimed.

The officials said a policeman, identified as Eesar, was injured in the gunfight and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, a suspended police official and a college student were killed when armed men opened fire on a car in the Abakhel area of Lakki Marwat district on Friday, the police said.

Fawadullah, 18, who was injured in the attack, told police that he along with constable Amanatullah, 29, (under suspension) was going to the judicial complex to attend a court hearing in his car.

He said on the way, he gave a ride to Farmanullah, 18, a student of Government Postgraduate College, Lakki Marwat, who was going to take an intermediate examination paper in the college.

“Armed men, including Hussain, Yasir, Hayatullah, Sadullah and Ibrahim suddenly appeared and opened fire on the car when it reached near a rainwater course in the village, injuring all the three on board,” he said.

He said Amanatullah and Farmanullah breathed their last while being shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital.

The complainant told police that a dispute over bike theft between the killers and Amanatullah led to the incident.

Police said bodies were handed over to relatives after completing medico-legal formalities at the hospital.
