LAHORE: The Punjab Wildlife Department and Lahore Qalandars signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering wildlife conservation efforts in the region.
The MoU signing ceremony was graced by the presence of stakeholders, including the cricketers from the franchise, who expressed their commitment to this noble cause. Among them was Sikandar Raza, a renowned Pakistani-Zimbabwean cricketer and the captain of Zimbabwe national team, who delivered an inspiring speech that resonated with the audience, emphasizing the importance of wildlife conservation. The MoU will primarily focus on educational outreach, community engagement and awareness efforts to support wildlife projects.
Raza said, “I am at a loss for words when it comes to discussing wildlife conservation. Today, I feel an immense sense of pride. I am grateful to Lahore Qalandars for providing me with this opportunity. The topic of wildlife conservation is very close to my heart.”
His words reflected a deep-seated passion for the cause, underscoring the significance of the MoU, which outlined the role athletes would play in promoting wildlife protection.

Raza further elaborated on his experiences in Zimbabwe where he gained a profound understanding of the importance of animals in the ecosystem.
“As I was reading the MoU, I noted that the athletes will contribute to wildlife conservation efforts. I promise that we will undertake this work with joy and dedication,” he affirmed and acknowledged the global challenges surrounding the wildlife conservation, expressing hope that Lahore Qalandars and its affiliates would actively support this initiative.
Highlighting the commendable efforts of the Punjab government, Raza stated, “The MoU mentions that the Punjab government has done tremendous work for wildlife conservation. If this is indeed the case, and I have witnessed it, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Punjab government. Other provincial governments should follow suit; otherwise, future generations will only see these animals in pictures.”
Sikandar Raza also noted that he had heard about the Punjab government’s consideration of collaboration for wildlife conservation.
“On behalf of the government of Zimbabwe and its people, I invite the Punjab government to come and see the extensive work being done for wildlife conservation in Zimbabwe. We are ready to play any role necessary for wildlife protection, whether through Lahore Qalandars or Zimbabwe,” he declared passionately.
