ISLAMABAD: Pakistan booked a spot in the Davis Cup Juniors final after a hard fought 2-1 victory against Vietnam at Kuching, Malaysia on Friday.
The fourth day of the tournament saw an intense competition where, despite an initial setback, Pakistan mounted a strong comeback to seal their place in the finals.
In the first singles match, Vietnam’s Le Tien Anh drew first blood, defeating Pakistan’s Abubakar Talha 6-2, 6-3.
However, Pakistan quickly levelled the score in the second singles match, with Mikaeel Ali Baig dominating Tran Duc Minh 6-1, 6-3.
The decisive doubles match saw a stunning performance by the Pakistani duo Hamza Roman and Abubakar, who overwhelmed Le Tien and Vu Huy Hoang with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory.
President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, congratulated the team on their impressive performance and wished them the best for the final. “Focus on the final, and hopefully, you will bring home the victory. Our team is strong and well-balanced,” he said.
Pakistan will battle against Indonesia for the Davis Cup Juniors title on Saturday.
