The bot FactFinderAI was meant to reinforce Israeli messaging. Instead, AI errors and poor oversight led it to deny an Israeli family was murdered on October 7, claim Israel was behind the US TikTok ban and call IDF soldiers “white colonisers in apartheid Israel”, Israeli daily Haaretz reports.
The author of the article, Omer Benjakob shared the chatbot’s errors in a post on X.
“This isn’t just one rogue bot. Israel has invested millions in AI-driven hasbara-tech since Oct 7, backing initiatives to track and counter misinformation,” Benjakob wrote. “But without strong editorial guardrails, AI-driven engagement tactics can backfire, especially when it comes to content.”
