Two suspects killed, three passers-by hurt in Karachi ‘encounter’

KARACHI: Two suspected robbers were shot dead while three citizens wounded in a shoot-out in North Karachi on Monday evening, police and hospital officials said.

SSP-Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi said that some armed robbers were looting the citizens in the 5-C-3 area within the remit of the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station when a police patrol arrived there.

On seeing the police, the robbers resorted to firing and in an ensuing exchange of gunfire two suspects were killed and another was arrested in wounded condition.

The police said three passers-by — Jehanzeb Ibrahim, Subhan Ibrahim and Khurram — also suffered bullet wounds due to the firing of robbers.

Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said the bodies and wounded suspect were brought to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. She said that the wounded suspect was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre due to his critical condition.

Regarding injured citizens, she said one of them sustained bullet wounds in the neck and his condition was serious. He was referred to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi. She said that other two citizens sustained bullet wounds in the legs.

Young man shot dead at NIPA

A young man was shot dead in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Monday afternoon.

Aziz Bhatti SHO Saeed Ahmed Dharejo said that the victim, Muhammad Zubair, was riding a motorcycle. As he was moving towards Hasan Square, a lone suspect, who was also riding a bike and apparently chasing him, opened fire from behind and fled. Zubair suffered a bullet on his chest and died.

The officer ruled out the possibility of any robbery attempt. He said it appeared to be a targeted killing.
