The Gaza Health Ministry has said the number of Palestinian deaths due to hypothermia has risen to seven as parents are terrified for their children, Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary reports from Deir el-Balah, Gaza.

“Parents are terrified, with their children freezing to death, in addition to dying because of starvation and ongoing air attacks,” the reporter said. “People here are freezing and shaking because of the very cold weather.”

“Particularly, the ones in tents in al-Mawasi, which is very close to the beach, are intensely suffering from the weather,” Khoudary said.

“We are talking about Palestinians who have been displaced for more than 14 months,” she said, adding that they are using the same tents despite the changing weather.

There are no other types and it is very expensive to buy nylon, tools or equipment to cover tents and it is also hard to acquire winter clothes, blankets and other essentials, the reporter concluded.
