The armed wing of Hamas, the Qassam Brigades, says its fighters have hit an Israeli Merkava tank with an explosive device near a mosque south of the Al-Zeitoun neighbourhood in Gaza City, Al Jazeera reports.

The Qassam Brigades also reported that Palestinian fighters engaged an Israeli military infantry force at point-blank range and inflicted casualties among soldiers.
