CRITICAL QUESTIONS

CRITICAL QUESTIONS: Anyone who thinks that the condition of masses has improved in recent times actually needs to check their optimism by answering a set of questions. Have the prices of electricity units decreased? Has it become easier for the common man to put two square meals on the family table every day without any difficulty? Has loadshe- dding of natural gas come to an end? Honest answers to these questions will bring to surface what the facts really are.

BIRDS AND HEATWAVES: As the meteorological department has predicted heatwaves across many cities of Sindh and Punjab, people would do well to take care of the avian population as well. The birds remain in the open during scorching heat. People should mark spots on their rooftops and keep bowls filled with water so that the birds may drink and take a dip in the water to keep themselves protected against the deleterious effects of heatwaves.

UNENDING PROTEST: Doctors and paramedic staff recently observed a boycott of their duties at Chandka Medical College and Hospital in Larkana, putting lives of many a patient at risk. The ensuing battle between the lawyer fraternity and the doctors after the death of an advocate’s daughter who was brought to the healthcare facility for treatment led to a chaos at the hospital. The authorities should intervene in such cases.

SHATTERED DREAM: This is with reference to the photograph showing raw sewage on M.A Jinnah Road, with the mausoleum of the Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah right behind the mess (Metro-South, May 17). In essence, the photograph perfectly summed up the whole tale of how miserably we, as a nation, have failed to keep the Quaid’s fundamental vision of cleanliness alive, let alone the elements of justice and freedom.
