SWABI: The federal education ministry, Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology and National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding on Saturday to establish a training centre in Islamabad to produce highly skilled graduates in IT subjects.

The MoU was signed by federal secretary education Mohiuddin Wani, Rector GIK Institute Prof Fazal Khalid and executive director NAVTTC Amir Jan.

The training centre would serve as a hub for cutting-edge research, hands-on learning experiences and professional development initiatives, and it would not only enhance the academic landscape but also contribute to the country’s socioeconomic growth by producing highly skilled graduates ready to tackle the challenges of the 21st century.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Wani said the MoU would provide the opportunity for a comprehensive collaboration between the federal ministry and GIK Institute for imparting training in modern IT subjects, which would enhance the prospects of employment of the educated youth.

Shakil Durrani, executive director of Society for Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan, said GIK Institute had started this programme as a corporate social responsibility initiative to help improve employment opportunities for the engineering and master degree holders.

He said the centre would provide training in accordance with the needs of local industry.

The federal education ministry plans to develop such centres in different federal educational institutions in collaboration with top universities.

“This partnership signifies a shared commitment to innovation, excellence and the advancement of education,” said Prof Khalid, adding the centre aimed to provide unparalleled opportunities for students, educators and professionals alike.

MAN KILLED: A 23-year-old man was killed in Kotha village on Saturday, rescue and police officials said.

Rescue 1122 officials said a team shifted the man, Haseeb Khan, to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to injuries.

The Topi city police station registered an FIR and started investigation.

Meanwhile, Waqas Khan, 20, and Adnan Khan, 23, were injured when they were hit by a speedy motorcycle while crossing a road near Mal Lara area.

A teenager, Irfan Khan, was injured and after he was hit by a motorcyclist in Nabi village.
