Libraries to be upgraded across Sindh: minister

HYDERABAD: Sindh Minister for Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Archives Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah said on Tuesday that all required facilities including furniture, new books and computers would be provided to libraries across the province.

He said during a visit of Dr Umar Bin Mohammad Dawoodpota Library that meeting would be held soon with publishers for provision of books.

He said that in line with Pakistan Peoples Party’s vision opportunities would be provided to youth to acquire knowledge about sciences by upgrading libraries in Sindh.

He inspected different sections of the library and met with students, enquiring about facilities provided in the library. He instructed the officials concerned to provide basic facilities to students and reviewed project for the expansion of the library.

The minister also visited Mehran Arts Council in Latifabad and ordered completion of construction and renovation work of the council building. He visited Sindhi Language Authority (SLA) and inspected library and records.

He directed officials of the SLA to improve and preserve historical and contemporary books as per modern techniques. Protection of literature and language was everyone’s responsibility and SLA had done valuable work in this regard but there was still room for improvement, he said.

Later, he visited Dr. N.A. Baloch Institute of Heritage Research Centre in Jamshoro. The minister was accompanied by DG Libraries Ejaz Sheikh, DG Culture Munawar Mahesar and other officers.
