Work on Mardan projects in progress

PESHAWAR, Feb 7: Mardan district nazim Himayatullah Mayar has said that several projects, particularly in health, education and water sectors, are being executed in the district.

“About Rs10 million will be spent on building a sports complex in the city. Rs1 million will be provided by the district government and the rest will come from the federal government,” Mr Mayar told reporters here on Tuesday.

Facilities for squash, cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, handball, kabaddi etc., will be made available at the sports complex, he said.

Two parks have been planned in collaboration with the Punjab Regiment Centre in Mardan. One park will be built over an area of 20 kanals and the other at a plot measuring 40 kanals. Various sport facilities will also be provided in one of the parks.

Mr Mayar said that educational institutions would also be built in the city, including two Federal Government Colleges one each for boys and girls.

“There is no shortage of funds. We are trying to carry out more development projects because the district has been ignored in the past,” he said.

The nazim said that 35 tube-wells, lying out of order for quite some time, would be put into operation soon and added that a drinking water supply plan had been chalked out to meet the water shortage.

He said a fire-brigade centre had been planned for the city. Four ambulances, two each for district headquarters hospitals and Mardan Medical Complex, were being purchased, he added.
