LAHORE: The UET’s Civil Engineering Department in collaboration with the Yokohama National University’s City and Regional Planning Department and Department of Civil Engineering on Friday hosted an international seminar on “Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.”

This one-day event brought together experts, academics and professionals from around the world to delve into the latest developments and strategies for disaster resilience.

The seminar showcased the critical role the civil engineering plays in ensuring the safety and sustainability of our built environment, particularly in the face of natural disasters.

The participants from Yokohama National University (Japan), UET, Lahore College for Women University, and Nespak presented a diverse array of perspectives on disaster prevention and mitigation.

The seminar’s agenda featured a comprehensive range of topics, reflecting the multifaceted nature of disaster resilience.

UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Habibur Rehman discussed the impact of floods on infrastructure and human life.

Yokohama University Prof Dr Akira Hosoda focused on eco-friendly concrete structures, while Nespak Engr Sohail Kibria addressed landslides’ mechanics and mitigation strategies. Local experts also shared their insights.

Prof Dr Atiqur Rehman highlighted urban farming’s role in addressing domestic food security, while Prof Dr Khalid Farooq delved into geotechnical characterization to mitigate damages caused by swelling clays.

Certificates were presented by VC Prof Dr Habibur Rehman and the chairpersons of both institutions.
