GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government started an initiative to hire 1,000 education fellows to improve education system and overcome teachers’ shortage in government schools across the region.

On Tuesday, officials of GB government signed an agreement with Aga Khan University (AKU), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Karakoram International University (KIU), and Knowledge Platform.

Under this initiative, AKU and its partners will recruit, train, and deploy 1,000 education fellows to government schools in GB in span of three years and the project would cost Rs2.19 billion.

The aim of the initiative is to improve education system in the region and overcome shortage of school teachers. The ceremony was chaired by GB Chief Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani at Chief Secretary House Gilgit. Director School Education Faizullah Lone and representatives of AKU, LUMS, KIU participated in the ceremony.

Under this initiative, AKU and its partners will recruit, train, and deploy 1,000 Education Fellows in government schools in GB.

Through video link the Vice Provost of AKU, Dr Anjum Hailai, expressed confidence that this project will significantly impact the government education system. KIU Vice Chancellor Dr Attaullah emphasised the university’s commitment to utilising all resources to support the education department in GB.

Additionally, Prof Dr Gulab Khan from Lums and Issa Salahuddin from Knowledge Platform shared their optimism and commitment to contributing their best to this commendable endeavour.

This landmark collaboration aims to elevate the quality of education in GilGit-Baltistan and create a brighter future for the region’s students.
