PESHAWAR: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of police on Friday arrested an Afghan national allegedly for demanding extortion from a fuel station owner in the provincial capital, CTD officials said.

An official statement issued by the CTD said that on Apr 19, Khalilur Rehman, a resident of Gulbahar, received a call from unknown persons who were demanding extortion.

The next day, an explosion took place at Rehman’s fuel station and a case was registered with the CTD Peshawar, the statement added.

The case was being probed and on July 24, Bahram Gull, a key member of the group involved in demanding extortion, was arrested from Baghwanan Road in Badhber.

“The Afghan national, Bahram Gull, was living in a refugee camp in Miskeenabad area of Badhber,” the statement said, adding the accused was under custody and was being interrogated.
