HYDRABAD: Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) president Adeel Siddiqui has urged the district administration to fix flour’s rate at Rs90 per kg in view of wheat’s market price and provide ample supply of the commodity to chakkis from godowns.
A nine-member delegation of the Atta Chakki Owners Social Welfare Association led by Haji Mohammad Memon met Mr Siddiqui on Wednesday and informed him that the food department was releasing only 30,000 wheat bags for 200 chakkis of Hyderabad, which were highly insufficient.
They feared that the city could face flour crisis by December. The association told the HCCI officials that if their problems were not resolved by the Sindh food department, they would observe strike on Oct 13 and 14.
He maintained that the last year, a 100kg bag of wheat was issued for Rs4,875 and district administration had fixed Rs72 per kilo and now wheat bag’s rate stood at Rs5,825 and flour’s rate was being fixed at Rs65 per kilo, which was injustice with the chakki owners.
The HCCI chief urged the district administration to fix flour’s rate at Rs90 per kg in view of wheat’s market price and chakkis should be provided wheat from godowns.
