MQM-P asks PM to ensure fairness in delimitation

KARACHI: Expressing concern over the delimitation process carried out by the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan on Monday asked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to play his role for justified delimitation of constituencies in urban parts of Sindh.

It wondered as to why and how the PPP-led government carried out delimitation in Sindh when it was actually the job of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

These concerns were expressed by the coordination committee of the MQM-P, which met here at its temporary headquarters in Bahadurabad.

“It’s high time that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif should play his role for the justified process mainly in urban Sindh and other parts of the province,” said an MQM-P statement. “On the directives of the Supreme Court, it’s the job of the ECP to carry out delimitation but it was the Sindh government of PPP which undertook this exercise.”

The meeting, it said, also expressed concern on the delay in implementation of the terms of the “Charter of Rights” signed between the MQM-P and PPP and MQM-P and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in March 2022.
