HIGH-HANDEDNESS

HIGH-HANDEDNESS: Karachiites continue to suffer owing to high-handed tactics of K-Electric (KE), which fails to provide electricity even in sweltering heat. In addition to power outages, the utility has now resorted to cutting power supply if one fails to pay the bill immediately on receipt. Our June electricity bill, received just days earlier, has July 7 as the due date. However, the KE disconnected the supply on June 28 without prior notice. When contacted, KE staff informed us that their management wanted to close accounts by June 30. Will the government care to investigate the matter?

NAWA KILLI LIBRARY: Nawa Killi, a small town in Quetta, does not have a library. The locals, especially students, have to travel long distances to access a library, which is costly and tiresome. This small town has a huge population of youth, and the lack of library is making it difficult for them to prepare themselves in the best possible way for the future. The government should set up a library in the area.

AIR OF DESPONDENCY: This refers to the article “Electrorate’s youth bulge” (June 27). There is an air of despondency related to elections, especially among the youth. Even an average college graduate is convinced that it is the establishment and international stakeholders that bring parties to power; not the voters. Despite a slight bulge in youth turnout in recent by-elections, the majority of youth may not turn out unless the establishment does away with politics completely.

SAVING WATER: I have been using Gulshan-i-Kaneez Fatima Road, Gulzar-i-Hijri, Karachi East, since 2015. Some water pipelines in the area are broken that waste a lot of precious water. The wasted water gets accumulated at several places and damages the roads, leading to accidents. The authorities concerned should install new pipelines to save water and repair the roads for smooth commute.
