ACE launches probe against Buzdar’s uncle

LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has launched an income beyond means investigation against the director (special branch) of the south Punjab police.

An ACE official told Dawn on Monday that an investigation had been launched against Ameer Taimoor (director of the special branch in south Punjab), who is former chief minister Usman Buzdar’s uncle.

Taimoor who also remained the Sahiwal district police officer got a three-year contract in the special branch after retirement last year by the Buzdar administration.

Last week, the ACE apparently on the order of the Hamza administration lodged corruption cases against Usman Buzdar and his family members for “unlawful and illegal misappropriation of state land” in Dera Ghazi Khan.

Two cases were registered on the complaint of Basheer Ahmed Chauhan on June 18 at DG Khan’s ACE office under Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery) and 471 (using forged document as genuine) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 5/2/47 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
