ANP fears terrorists regrouping in provinces

PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party has expressed serious concern about the increase in terror attacks in the country and urged the federal government to adopt an effective strategy to eradicate the menace to protect people’s lives.

ANP central general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain made the remarks during a visit to residences of the slain police officials, Fayyaz Khan and Syed Sajjad Ali Shah, in Nowshera on Friday, according to a statement issued here.

He condemned the brutal attack on police in the area and feared the terrorists were regrouping in different provinces, but the government was unable to take pragmatic steps against them.

“Had the government implemented the National Action Plan in real sense the terrorists would have never dared to regroup,” he said while referring to different terror incidents occurred in Bajuar, Waziristan and Balochistan.

Mr Hussain paid tribute to the slain personnel and said the provincial police force had offered matchless sacrifices for protection of citizens’ lives.

He said the provincial government had failed to boost morale of the police personnel in the face of attacks on them.

The ANP leader feared the increasing attacks on personnel of law enforcement agencies would cause serious unrest among common citizens.
