Schools with high Covid positivity rate to be closed for a week: NCOC

The NCOC has decided to suspend classes for a week at educational institutions that have reported high Covid-19 positivity rates.

In a statement, the NCOC said Covid-19 testing was carried out in cities that had a high incidence of Omicron cases to determine the prevalence of the disease among students. "Data suggests a strong correlation between vaccination levels and infection rate in various cities," it said.

In light of this observation, the NCOC took the following decisions:

  • Aggressive testing to be carried out at educational institutions for next two weeks, especially in cities with high disease prevalence.
  • Educational institutions/specific classes with high positivity rates to be closed for one week. Provincial administrations and school officials will set the threshold of cases for deciding such closures.
  • Federating units will carry out special vaccination drives in schools to ensure 100 per cent vaccination of students over 12 years of age.
