FBR raises extra Rs42bn with 2.21m tax returns

LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has so far received as many as 2.213 million returns with additional tax collection of Rs41.895 billion up to Oct 12.

According to an official source, the total returns filed with the online system till Oct 11 were 2.190815 million with deposit of Rs41.397bn. “Till Oct 12, the total tax returns filed were 2.213m with additional tax deposits of Rs41.895bn,” an FBR official told Dawn.

The board had earlier urged all old and new taxpayers to file their tax returns well before Oct 15 after it extended the last date of Sept 30 to facilitate those who faced technical hiccups on the last date.

The FBR campaign resulted in an immense traffic of taxpayers to the Iris website and for the first time ever over 1.8m returns were filed within 90 days ending on Sept 30. In three days alone (Oct 1 to 3), the FBR reportedly received around 600,000 returns from all over Pakistan.
