ISLAMABAD: Contrary to past practice, this year boys showed improvement by clinching first positions in pre-medical, pr-engineering and general science group of the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC Part-II) examination announced by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) on Monday.
However, girls secured positions in all five groups. As per the results, the pass percentage was 99.8pc. Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood attended the result announcement ceremony. He congratulated successful students and encouraged them to work harder in their future endeavours and to do their best for the country. Earlier, FBISE Chairman Qaisar Alam briefed the minister about the results.

It is relevant to note here that inter-provincial education ministers in a meeting last month had decided that failed students will be given extra marks. The results showed that this year 81,988 students were enrolled. Out of them 80,282 were declared pass with 99.8 passing percentage. According to results, in pre-medical group the first position was shared by the following students: Umer Maqsood of Military College Jhelum, Sara Alamgir, Uzair Irfan from Army Public School and College Rawalpindi and Maheen Khalid from Foundation Higher Secondary School Rawalakot Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). All of them got 1,098 marks each.
While second position in this group was bagged by Moiza Zahid from Pak-Turk Maarif International Schools (H-8) with 1,094 marks followed by Aryan Attique from International School of Pakistan, Vaniza Naeem from Army Public School and College Humayun Road and Shazia Zulfiqar from Punjab College Attock Refinery Road Rawalpindi, who got 1,093 marks each and secured third position.
In the pre-engineering Group, first position was secured by Ghufran Ahmed Talib from Army Public School and College, Gujranwala by getting 1,090 marks. Second position was shared by three students - Mohammad Mursaleen from Punjab College of Science Blue Area, Mohammad Haris from HCCS Educational System Rawalpindi and Misbah Juwayriyyah from Harvard College of Commerce and Science Peshawar Road as they got 1,089 marks each. Third position was shared by four students by getting 1,088 marks each - Sohaib Ahmad from Alflah Foundation School Misrial Road, Javeria Hakim from Jinnah Education System Taxila, Eisha Arshad Malik from Army Public School and College Kallar Kahar and Tabeer Sajid from Army Public School and College Peshawar Cantt.
Similarly, in the humanities group, Syeda Amat-ul-Zahra from Kauthar College for Women H-8 got first position by securing 1,051 marks followed by Syeda Nosheen Zahra from Government Girls Higher Secondary School Skardu who got 1,044 marks (second position) and third position was secured by Sabahat Bibi from Post Graduate College Wah Cant who got 1,041 marks.
Meanwhile, in the science (general group), Mohammad Hamas Shahid from Army Public School Fort Road Rawapindi got first position by securing 1,094 marks followed by Rafia Ashraf from Punjab College of Commerce Rawalpindi who got 1,087. Third position was shared by three students – Mohammad Uzair from APS and College Sargodha, Soma Maqbool from F.G. Degree College Abid Majeed Road and Momina Amjad from Fazaia College of Education Lahore. All secured 1,083 marks each.
In the commerce group, first position was clinched by Irfah Imran from Punjab College Rawalpindi by getting 1,084 marks followed by Laiba Aslam from Punjab College Attock Refinery Road Rawalpindi who got 1,076 marks (second position) and Iqra Younis from Superior College Swan Camp came in third with 1,074 marks. It is relevant to note here that this year no position was clinched by Islamabad-based public higher secondary schools and colleges.
