K-ELECTRIC BILLS: K-Electric delivers bills to its consumers in the third week of the month with the last date for payment being just before the end of month, creating problems for people belonging to the salaried class and the daily-wagers who go out of pocket at fag end of each month. Keeping in view the financial constraints of low-income consumers, the authorities should look into the matter and bind the company to extend/fix the last date for payment of bills till the 10th of each month.

POLICE ATTITUDE: If a person happens to visit a nearby police station for lodging a complaint, the staff starts asking the kind of questions and in a tone that both make the complainant uncomfortable. It is as if the complainant himself is responsible for whatever bad may have happened to him. This deters the public from going to police stations and seeking help in the first place. Police must start treating the public with respect.

NEPOTISM: Nepotism is rampant in society. Qualified and competent candidates keep waiting for their big break, while incompetent and even unqualified individuals go miles because of the ‘references’ they have. It is rather unfortunate that even private-sector entities have also taken the same path and offer jobs to candidates on the basis of the ‘word of mouth’ rather than merit.

ENCROACHMENT: The owners of a mini-mart in Clifton’s Block 2 have forcibly blocked and encroached upon a passageway by erecting steel structure to set up different stalls, creating public nuisance and putting the safety of the residents at stake. The residents approached the relevant authorities, but to no avail. The owners are arrogant about the complaints as they claim to have ‘connections’ with people at the helm of affairs. The authorities must take corrective actions immediately.
