BOMBAY: Total number of persons killed in the Bombay riots reached the 201 mark on Thursday [Sept 5] the fifth day since the outbreak… . The day’s casualties were 27 killed and 88 injured. The number of persons injured since Sunday was 602.

…The worst example of communal frenzy occurred on Thursday afternoon when a mob reported to be over 300 strong sacked a shrine in the northern part of the city, killed seven persons and wounded one. One of the inmates of the place escaped the fury of the mob by hiding under a bedstead… .

[Meanwhile, it was also reported from Bombay,] The General Secretary of the Bombay Provincial Muslim League had brought to the notice of the Police Commissioner the fact that “when you were asked to grant police aid to those Muslims who were trapped in riot-ridden Hindu areas, you refused to grant any aid and stated that you will try to give help after the curfew begins. When you were apprised of the possible danger of the Muslims being victims of the Hindu violence, you expressed your inability to do so….”
