MPAs ordered to supervise culling drive in their areas

SUKKUR: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, Sukkur bench, on Thursday asked SSPs to continue to register FIRs against municipal officials in the light of the apex court’s order relating to dog bite case.

The bench comprising Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar and Justice Faisal Kamal Alam, however, restrained police from arresting such officials.

The bench was seized with a petition against growing incidents of dog bite cases in different districts of Sindh and the indifferent attitude of the officials concerned about people’s life and health.

The deputy commissioner of Ghotki and SSPs of Larkana and Shikarpur appeared before the bench and submitted their reports about registration of FIRs against municipal officials in whose areas dog bite incidents took place since the apex court issued the relevant order.

Municipal officers of Sukkur, Khairpur, Jacobabad and some other districts also appeared before the bench and submitted their reports about culling of stray dogs in their respective areas.

During the deliberation, the bench asked the SSPs not to arrest the municipal officials against whom FIRs were registered as per the apex court’s order.

The bench also ordered the MPAs concerned to supervise the culling campaign within their respective constituencies and not to tolerate any slackness in this regard.

The bench adjourned the matter till Feb 16.
