GUJRANWALA: A court rejected the plea of the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) to extend physical remand of former PML-N MNA Mudassar Qayyum Nahra who was arrested in land grabbing case.
Nahra has been sent to jail after eight-day physical remand while his father and two brothers were granted pre-arrest bail.
The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) had registered two cases against PML-N leader Mudassar Qayyum Nahra, his father Sultan Nahra and brothers MNA Azhar Qayyum Nahra and Mazhar Qayyum Nahra for allegedly grabbing 273 kanal state land at Mattoo Bhaike village.
Mudassar was arrested while Sultan, Azhar and Mazhar while their accomplices disappeared. The ACE had got eight-day physical remand of Mudassar while other suspects had got pre-arrest bail.
Investigating Officer Rana Nawaz said the physical remand of Nahra was taken to recover Rs24m fine that was imposed on him and his accomplices for using the state land for the last 14 years. However, they could not recover a single penny.
The investigating officer had requested the court another five days remand to recover fine but the court did not accept the request and sent Nahra to the Central Jail.
INQUIRY: Inquiry into illegal promotion of some BPS-4 employees of the metropolitan corporation has been completed.
The local government secretary had taken notice of illegal promotion in metropolitan corporation and launched the inquiry.
According to inquiry report, some sweepers, electricians and gardeners were promoted on the political basis and they were now serving as BPS-16 and BPS-17 officers.
Commissioner Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah told the media that action would be taken against the MC employees who had got illegal promotions.
The inquiry team presented the report to the secretary local government.
BOOKED: The Kamoki city police registered a case against four people for manhandling a bridegroom and snatching cash from him.
The station house officer said Jawad Ahmad, the bridegroom, was returning home along with his bride and other relative women in a car. When he reached the Lady Park Road near Salamatpura, Abubakar, along with his four accomplices, stopped the car and beat Jawad. The suspects fled after snatching thousands of rupees from him.
In another incident, the Saddar Kamoki police registered a case against three people for making a fake call to police emergency 15. According to police, Altaf, Zahoor and Siddique made a call to 15 and complained that one Muhammad Arshad had abducted their brother, Abbas, and demanded Rs900,000 ransom from them for his release. After an investigation, the police came to know that there was a dispute between both the parties and the suspects had made a fake call to police.
GEPCO: On the direction of the Ministry of Energy, the administration of the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) suspended all departmental courses in regional training centre Nandipur and circle training centre in the wake of the Covid-19.
Gepco Chief Executive Muhammad Amin said training courses had been suspended to protect the employees from the pandemic.
He said the field staff should adopt all protective measure of department and asked the field officers to take action against any employee was found violating the Covid standard operating procedures.
